Day by day
- Day 1
Arrive Kuala Lumpur
A driver meets you at KLIA for the transfer to Bukit Bintang. The fountain show in KLCC Park in the evening, then dinner at the Jalan Alor night street food market.
- Day 2
Kuala Lumpur
Merdeka Square, Masjid Jamek and Central Market in the morning, lunch in Chinatown, then the Petronas Skybridge in time for sunset. Drinks after at a helipad bar.
Worth knowingThe Skybridge is at 4:30 pm on purpose: you are on the towers for the last of the daylight and down in KLCC Park for the fountains after dark. Tickets are timed and sold out days ahead, so the slot is booked with the trip.
- Day 3
Genting Highlands
Batu Caves at 7 am, then up to Genting Highlands for the Awana SkyWay, Skytropolis and Resorts World. Back in Kuala Lumpur by evening.
Or insteadNot keen on the theme park? The same day can be Batu Caves in the early morning, then the Kuala Selangor fireflies in the evening, and the afternoon free in Kuala Lumpur.
- Day 4
Fly to Langkawi
Fly from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi. The afternoon at Pantai Cenang, then the night market in the evening.
- Day 5
Langkawi
Hire scooters, or take a Grab, through the rice fields to Gunung Raya for a late breakfast. Then three hours through the Kilim mangroves on a shared boat, or your own if the group is big.
- Day 6
Langkawi
A four-hour jet ski run to five islands, including Dayang Bunting, with lunch on the beach. In the evening, three hours on a shared yacht, with dinner and drinks aboard while the sun goes down.
Worth knowingYou ride the jet ski yourself and you need no licence, but under-16s cannot take one out alone. Parasailing, banana boats and more go straight off the beach: on your own, or arranged ahead by us.
- Day 7
Kuah, then home
Morning in Kuah for duty-free shopping and Eagle Square, then the flight home through Kuala Lumpur.
Or insteadEnd with two nights on Koh Lipe, Thailand: ninety minutes from Langkawi by speedboat, small enough to walk across in twenty minutes, and better sand than anything on the Malaysian side. Boats run from mid-October to late May.
Room to change
Every day on this trip can move. These are the changes we’ve already worked out, and what each one involves.
Travelling with parents
A car and driver on Langkawi for getting around, the jet ski day becomes the cable car and the sky bridge, and the Kuala Lumpur walking morning is cut in half. The islands are still boat trips.
Less city, more island
Two nights in Kuala Lumpur instead of three, and the day you save goes to Langkawi. Genting comes out and the island gets a whole day with nothing planned in it.
Straight to the island
Skip Kuala Lumpur entirely and fly to Langkawi on the first day. Seven days on one island, which is a different trip and, for some people, the one they actually wanted.
End on Koh Lipe, Thailand
Add a night: three in Kuala Lumpur, two on Langkawi and two on Koh Lipe, ninety minutes away by speedboat. It crosses into Thailand, so bring passports and file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, and leave a full day between the boat back and your flight home.
Tell us what you’d change and we’ll send it back with a price, usually within a day.
